Violence against staff working in the NHS is a crime. This practice has a zero tolerance of violence and abuse against its staff.
The practice considers aggressive behaviour to be any personal, abusive and/or aggressive comments, cursing and/or swearing, physical contact and/or aggressive gestures.
The practice will request the removal of any patient from the practice list who is aggressive or abusive towards a doctor, member of staff, other patient, or who damages property.
Trafalgar Medical Group Practice also reserves the right to remove any patient seen to be making abusive or defamatory remarks on any social networking site (Facebook / Twitter etc).
All instances of actual physical abuse on any doctor or member of staff, by a patient or their relatives will be reported to the police as an assault.
The CCG believes that all NHS staff are entitled to work in a safe environment and one in which they are fully supported when faced with unacceptable behaviour from patients, their relatives and other visitors, however it occurs and in whatever form. Staff should be treated with respect and dignity. Such behaviours include, aggression, abuse and violence.
The essence of this policy is that the CCG will take a ‘zero tolerance’ stance in relation to incidents of aggression, abuse and violence which are directed towards CCG staff either from service users (to include patients and clients), their relatives, visitors… Such unacceptable behaviour towards staff will not be tolerated and the CCG will endeavour to ensure the safety, protection and welfare of its staff are its top priority.
