Meningitis

We are aware of a recent increase in concern regarding meningitis, which has led to a high volume of calls to the practice. The spread is because of the close proximity university students live in together.

At present, there has been no formal update or specific guidance issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). However, we would like to reassure patients that we are monitoring the situation closely.

As a precaution, we strongly encourage anyone aged between 14 and 25 who has not yet received their routine school leaver vaccinations (which includes 5th Tetanus vaccine and the meningitis ACWY vaccine) to contact the practice to arrange an appointment.

For most people, the risk remains low, but vaccination is the most effective way to protect yourself and others. There is no vaccine currently that we can give to over 25 year olds.

If you are experiencing symptoms such as a high temperature, severe headache, sensitivity to light, stiff neck, or a rash that does not fade when pressed, please seek urgent medical attention.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
